Terms of Service

Welcome to BALLISTICS INSIGHT (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using our application, which provides calculations of various ballistic characteristics (“Services”).

These Terms cover our website at ballisticsinsight.com and our mobile apps for iOS and Android. The three differ in a few places that matter — purchases and location capture exist only in the mobile apps — and where they do, these Terms say so rather than describing one and leaving you to guess about the others.

By accessing or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, please do not use the App.

1. What the App does

The App provides idealized, approximate calculations of ballistic characteristics. Results are provided for informational purposes only, and should not be considered fully accurate or reflective of real-world conditions.

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • The calculations are based on mathematical models and standard physics formulas, which may not account for all variables affecting real ballistic behavior.
  • Actual ballistic performance can vary significantly due to a range of factors, including but not limited to environmental conditions, equipment differences, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Features that fit a solution to your own recorded data — velocity and BC truing, wind truing — can only be as good as the data you enter, and a confident-looking result from bad inputs is still a bad result.
  • Correction tables, drag models and atmospheric models are approximations chosen for generality, not measurements of your specific rifle, load, or conditions.
  • You are solely responsible for any decisions or actions taken based on information provided by the App.

2. Safety

The App is a planning aid, not a substitute for confirming your own zero and dope on a range. Never fire at a target you have not positively identified, and never take a shot whose backstop and surroundings you have not confirmed to be safe, whatever a calculation predicts.

You are responsible for the safe and lawful handling of firearms and for complying with every law that applies where you are. Nothing the App produces authorizes, recommends, or excuses any shot.

3. Your account

The mobile apps can be used without an account, in which case your data stays on your device. Creating an account — by signing in with Google or with Apple — enables cloud sync across your devices.

  • You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to the sign-in provider you chose.
  • You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13 years old, to create an account.
  • You can delete your account, and everything synced with it, from within the apps. Deletion is permanent and we cannot undo it. You can export your data first.

4. Ballistics Insight Pro

Some features in the mobile apps — dope cards and the saved-card library, velocity/BC and wind truing, and imported ballistic profiles — require Pro. Everything else, including the trajectory solver itself, is free.

  • Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There is nothing to cancel and nothing that renews.
  • Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and those stores — not us — take the payment. Your purchase is also governed by that store’s own terms.
  • Your purchase is tied to the store account that made it. Signing in to Ballistics Insight links it to your account so it works on your other devices; you can also use Restore Purchases.
  • Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under that store’s refund policy. We cannot issue, reverse, or override a store’s refund decision. If a purchase is refunded, Pro features stop working.
  • We may change the price of Pro for future purchasers. A change never affects a purchase already made.
  • If we ever discontinue a Pro feature, that does not entitle you to a refund of a completed one-time purchase, though we will say so before removing anything substantial.

5. Your content

Your loads, rifle profiles, shooting logs, saved cards and settings are yours. We claim no ownership of them.

By using cloud sync you give us permission to store, copy and transmit that content for the sole purpose of running the service for you — syncing it between your devices, backing it up, and showing it back to you. That permission exists so sync can work. It does not let us sell your content, publish it, or use it to advertise, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. The export feature exists for that.

6. Location (mobile apps, optional)

If you grant location permission, the apps record the coordinates of a shooting log entry so elevation and weather can be looked up for that place. Location is never collected in the background, and declining the permission leaves every other feature working. What is collected and how it is stored is described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Availability

Cloud sync, account services and correction-table downloads are provided on a best-effort basis. We do not promise any level of uptime, and we may take services down for maintenance. The mobile apps are built to keep working on the data already on your device when the network or our servers are unavailable.

8. Acceptable use

You agree to use the App responsibly and only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or unsafe activity
  • Misrepresent or misuse the App’s results in any way
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or tamper with the App, or to obtain Pro features without paying for them
  • Attempt to access another user’s account or data
  • Use the Services in a way that degrades them for other people, including automated bulk requests

9. Third-party services

The App relies on services we do not control, including Google Firebase for accounts and sync, and the Apple App Store and Google Play for purchases. Their terms apply to their parts of what you do, and an outage or a decision on their side can affect the App.

10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

THE APP AND ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS. THE DEVELOPERS MAKE NO WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF THE CALCULATIONS OR INFORMATION PROVIDED.

BALLISTICS INSIGHT EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL LIABILITY FOR DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP OR RELIANCE ON THE INFORMATION GENERATED, INCLUDING ANY LOSS OF DATA.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. Where that is so, the above applies to the fullest extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by agreement.

11. Changes to the App and these Terms

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the App or any features without notice. We may update these Terms from time to time, and will change the effective date above when we do. Continued use of the App after such changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using the App at any time, and delete your account from within the apps. We may suspend or terminate access for a serious or repeated breach of these Terms — for example attempting to obtain Pro features without paying, or attacking the Services. Deleting your account does not refund a purchase; refunds run through the store, as described above.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Minnesota. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the state of Minnesota.

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
